The anti-violence organisation Men for Gender Equality (previously Male Network) is an non-
profit and politically independent national organization, working since 1993 against men's
violence in Sweden. We focus on change among men and boys. The absence of male violence would benefit to everyone. Men's violence affect women and children as well as boys and men.
Gender equality is a key issue when looking forward and working preventively against violence.
The same norms that cause inequality is also a main cause for men's violence against women
and men. Gender equality challenges both men and women to change – changes that as a
whole are positive also for men. We claim that these changes are even badly needed by boys
and men.
In addition to the strategic and long-term preventive work there is a need for short-term and more hands-on activities to prevent men's violence.
Men for Gender Equality operates in Sweden, both on a local level through independent and
non-profit associations, and on a national level. The national level serves as a support the local
actrivities and as a platform for influencing public opinion, campaigns, competence development and -sharing. Men for Gender Equality also participates in international conferences, networks and projects (such as MenEngage).
