Description
Information
Hybrid systems, like the name implies, combine two or more modes of electricity generation together, usually using renewable technologies such as solar photo voltaic (PV) and wind turbines. Hybrid systems provide a high level of energy security through the mix of generation methods and incorporate a storage system (battery, fuel cell) or small fossil fuelled generator to ensure maximum supply reliability and security. An example of one the market segments is Telecoms, which has been hit hard by the ever increasing costs of running mobile sites with decreasing revenues per subscriber. The competition within Mobile Communications is growing dramatically whilst at the same time the global economy has been shrinking and placing extra burdens on operators to reduce both their CAPEX and OPEX in order to become more competitive and to either retain or enlarge their market share. The global warming issue has also been elevated over recent times to such a high level that globally organizations are fighting to reduce the carbon emissions produced by fossil fuel. This has now been acknowledged by the mobile communications industry and the GSMA is now looking at converting 118,000 existing and new base stations to green solutions; thereby saving 2.7 billion litres of fuel annually. In the emerging world markets such as Africa, South Asia and South America the reliability and availability of energy from a central source or grid is virtually nonexistent; operators have been forced to provide power from diesel generators as alternative sources such as solar and wind power have been too expensive and too difficult to deploy. In conjunction with a number of other power system manufacturers and suppliers, Lister Petter have researched and developed a solution to the power problem that is both cost effective and beneficial to the environment.
