About Kingdon Timber Mart

Kingdon Timber Mart | Our History

Since 1840 the Kingdon family has been in the home improvement business in Peterborough County, starting as a barrel and cedar shim shingle manufacturer. In 1926, Orville Kingdon decided to branch out and start a sawmill in Lakefield.

After the War, Art Kingdon came back to work at the mill, where he got the idea that the sawmill needed to change and adapt to the times. As a result in 1952, KINGDON LUMBER was born as a hardware/lumberyard. In 1959 Kingdon Lumber had the foresight to begin manufacturing roof trusses. Kingdon Truss is the oldest family owned truss manufacturer in North America.

In 1986, Don and Kim (Kingdon) Dyck purchased the business, becoming Kingdon Timber Mart in 1998, and ran it together until 2016 when Kevin Dyck (son) and Dave Breukelaar (son-in-law) joined the ownership team.

With a rich history in the building supply industry, Kingdon Timber Mart looks to a future of providing personal service and offering quality products.
