The Archives of Neurology & Psychiatry began publication in 1919 and, in 1959, became 2 separate journals: Archives of Neurology and Archives of General Psychiatry. In 2013, their names changed to JAMA Neurology and JAMA Psychiatry, respectively. JAMA Psychiatry is published online weekly, every Wednesday, and 12 print/online issues per year. The journal receives more than 2.8 million online visits annually, with 3.7 million article views and downloads. Without any author fees, all research articles are made free access online 12 months after publication on the website.
