IKM - Institut Kemahiran MARA

Institut Kemahiran MARA (IKM) is under MAJLIS AMANAH RAKYAT - MARA. IKM was created with the aim of producing Bumiputera youth who are skilled in various technical and technical fields to qualify them to serve in the trade, enterprise and industrial sectors as well as create potential entrepreneurs.The training exercise is conducted by providing various courses in a numbersof fields which conducted at IKM throughout the country. The first SMEs were established in 1968, namely Melaka IKM which was then stationed at Jalan Hang Tuah, Melaka. Initially IKM was created with a social oriented objective of addressing the problem of dropout in the education sector among youths and Bumiputera youths especially in rural areas.In line with developments in the education world led by technological-based economic developments, the country needs more well trained workers. In addition technological developments also result in manufacturing and industrial companies that make significant contributions to employment opportunities, changing their human resource requirements from assembly workers to highly-skilled workers. In this regard, skills is important in the human resource development program and consistent with the academic flow and this allows middle school leavers to make choices about the course and the field they want to apply. Majlis Amanah Rakyat - MARA, was formed by an act of Parliament in 1966. It had originally begun as the Rural Industrial Development Authority (RIDA), which was established by the British colonial administration in 1951, a program to provide economic assistance and support to Malay farmers and rural inhabitants. This organisation was expanded in scope and became the MARA in 1966. Although it is an autonomous government agency, it reports to the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, who appoints all the members of the MARA Council. Besides state-level offices in the 13 states of Malaysia and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur.
