The Haute école de musique de Genève is an institution of higher education for music in Switzerland. It was created from the professional classes of two institutions: the Geneva Conservatory of Music, founded in 1835, the oldest music teaching institution in Switzerland, and the Jaques-Dalcroze Institute, founded in 1915. Deeply rooted in the cultural life of the region, in the heart of one of the most beautiful regions of Europe, the HEM is an artistic and pedagogical community with an international reputation.
The HEM welcomes more than 600 students, of whom about a hundred are based at the Neuchâtel site. It is part of the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland (HES-SO), the largest professional university in the country, which has 21,000 students. The students of the HEM are supervised by a hundred or so highly qualified professors and guest workers who are active in artistic and academic life.
The EMH offers complete bachelor's and master's degree programs covering all aspects of the music business: performance, conducting, composition, pedagogy, ethnomusicology, music and movement. It also offers postgraduate training courses (CAS and DAS). Its university-level courses of study are internationally recognized and offer excellent career opportunities to its graduates.
