Since our beginning as a VISTA program in 1975, Genesis has reached over 2,000 youth in Kansas City. Genesis School was created to address the unique needs of our students and help them become responsible, self-sufficient leaders through engagement in the school’s Academic and enrichment programs and counseling services.
Genesis School offers free transportation, breakfast, lunch, and before/after school care from the Boys and Girls Club.
The Strategic Reading program applies a multi-sensory approach to improve students’ reading skills. This program allows students to gain two or more years of reading skills over the course of a single school year. For this program, classroom teachers are also trained in techniques to support reading comprehension and learning processes.
Furthermore, Genesis School’s unique counseling department provides comprehensive mental health and counseling services. These services include: assessment/evaluation, individual/family/group counseling, behavioral intervention, & community support referrals/resources. Groups focus on teen violence, drug prevention, & positive family/social relationships.
