The FRDC is widely recognised as the leading Australian agency concerned with planning, funding and managing fisheries research and development.
The FRDC does not undertake research itself; rather it identifies research and development needs - and the means of addressing them - through a planning process and by contracting with research providers.
Stakeholders in the FRDC are the fishing industry; the governments of the Commonwealth, the states and the territories; and the people of Australia.
Our Role
The FRDC plans, invests in and manages fisheries research and development throughout Australia. It is a statutory authority within the portfolio of the federal Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, jointly funded by the Australian Government and the fishing industry.
Mission
The FRDC's mission is to increase economic and social benefits for the fishing industry and the people of Australia, through planned investment in research
