The Surrey Borough of Epsom & Ewell lies around 15 miles southwest of London. It is the smallest district in Surrey, with a population of around 75,000, and while the majority of people live in the urban areas of Epsom, Ewell and Stoneleigh, large areas to the south of the Borough are protected open space. The area is famous for being the home of the Derby and the racehorse training industry has a local economic significance.The Borough has relatively low levels of deprivation, with high levels of employment and high wages, although some parts, Ruxley and Court wards particularly, are amongst the most deprived in the County.
