Sandvik Osprey was founded in 1974 by three postgraduates from Swansea University to develop and license spray-forming technology. Originally known as Osprey Metals, the company was acquired by Sandvik AB of Sweden in 1984. Sandvik Osprey Ltd has become a major supplier of fine gas-atomized powders and the Company has enjoyed success in the fields of powder metallurgy and advanced materials. Sandvik Osprey has 2 main products; Metal Powders and Controlled Expansion Alloys. Fine gas-atomized metal powder products are used in a number of applications such as MIM (metal injection moulding) part manufacture, and now also increasingly in additive manufacturing/3-D printing amongst other things. Sandvik Osprey produces spray-formed controlled-expansion alloy components for electronics packaging and other advanced high-tech applications. The company has developed a huge portfolio of specialty alloys customized for specific clients, such as nickel- and cobalt-based super-alloys, as well as materials for aerospace and dental applications.
