About Beacon Day School

Beacon Day School is one of the most innovative and nationally acclaimed schools in the United States. A private, non-profit, non-sectarian, independent day school, Beacon is dedicated to educating the whole child through a developmentally responsive, arts enriched curriculum.

Founded in 1982 by two women committed to creating an education environment that meets the needs of today's families, Beacon's educational program serves students from Early Childhood through eighth grade.
In the best-selling book Winning the Brain Race, Xerox CEO David Kearns, and Hudson Institute Senior Research Fellow Denis Doyle, cite Beacon as a shining example of an educational program that works describing Beacon as the most public of private schools and "a harbinger of things to come."

Located on the Oakland waterfront in the Arts District just south of Jack London Square and near the Alameda border, Beacon is easily accessible from Interstate 880 and city streets.

Admission is open to all students and their families regardless of race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national or ethnic origin.
