The Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) is an alliance of seven leading Catalan research centres of excellence specializing in physics, chemistry and the life sciences.
The goals of BIST are to contribute to improving the conditions for carrying out high-quality research and raising its international visibility, to generate a postgraduate offer with international impact, to build a critical mass to multiply the capacities of research centres in various areas such as knowledge transfer, scientific and technological platforms and talent attraction, and to cooperate for this purpose with scientific institutions, corporations and other individuals or public and private entities.
The BIST institutes are: the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia, the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO), the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ), the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), the Institute for High Energy Physics (IFAE), and the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona).
