Association of Cine & Television Art Directors & Costume Designers

Right from the inception of the film industry in India, the Art Directors have played the most important role in the making of all the films to dates. Art Director is a person who creates the entire environment according to the film director’s conception without which no scenes would have been filmed according to the original script. In the yester years, the film studios were the only film producing institutions. Then there was the revolution as many free lancing producers thronged the industry. Thus, all the technicians of the film industry thought of looking forward to professional respect & security. Within no time, some of the crafts started forming their own crafts Associations. Hence the Art Directors also took the initiative to have their own individual identity and they formed the Association of Cine Art Directors in 1975 which is now the Association of Cine & Television Art Directors. The veterans who took the initivative were V. H. PALNITKER, M. R. ACHREKAR, SHANTI DEO, GANESH BASAK, ANUP KAKD, J. S. POPHELEY, WAHAB SAHEB, A. A. MAJEED AND M. K. SAYED. Apart from these towering personalities MR. BIRAN NAG, R. K. HANDA, SUDHENDU ROY, SHANTI DAS, N. B. KULKARNI, BANSI CHANDRA GUPTA, had also contributed their mite through their artistic skill to popularize Art Direction and their Arts were instrumental to make the film of International caliber.
