Vumatel was founded in 2014 by industry veterans Niel Schoeman, and Johan Pretorius, who pioneered Fibre to the Home (FTTH) in South Africa with a pilot project in Parkhurst. Vumatel has since connected homes to high speed open access fibre broadband across Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. Since launching the business in 2014, Vumatel has been voted the best fixed-line broadband provider in South Africa. Vumatel builds an open access fibre network which means that Vumatel is not a service provider but simply installs the infrastructure. Residents can then choose from a number of Internet Service Providers for internet packages ranging from R396 per month* The open access nature of the network prevents the duplication of infrastructure and drives down prices for the end-user.
