Blackgang Chine was started in 1843 by the Dabell family and is still owned and run by the same family today; fifth generation, Alexander Dabell who is also the Managing Director of Vectis Ventures. Across the company, we are committed to providing the highest customer experience and are proud to have been awarded the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence for both parks for the past four consecutive years. We are committed to developing the tourism offer for the Island by extending the season and creating more year-round career opportunities in tourism. As a way of extending the tourism season, we introduced our themed ‘electric woods’ evening events at Robin Hill in 2012, which take place in February (Spirit of the Orient) and October/November (Festival of Light inspired by Diwali). As a result, of this investment, we have seen a significant increase in visitor numbers, making October as important a month for Robin Hill as the summer holidays, which also benefits other businesses on the Island. Vectis Ventures employs approximately 170 staff across both parks; 40 of which are full-time permanent employees. We invest in all our teams across the business, with internal and external training and currently run a career development programme aimed at identifying our ‘stars’ of the future. We have a very loyal workforce and welcome back employees year after year. Many have also progressed from seasonal posts into senior permanent positions.
