Umongo is a design platform created by Mlondolozi Hempe.



Mlondolozi Hempe, explores art and design through his Architectural profession and fused influences of his heritage and childhood. He has purposefully plat-formed his work within a South African Context, enriching his expression of soul as Umongo. Growing from the organic process into clean linear symbols merged with unexpected materials to marry contemporary perceptions of structure to that of cultural reference. Learning new skills while collaborating with his peers.



A strong belief he holds is that of being able to transcend boundaries and challenge stereotypes by searching one’s life for inspiration for a conscious understanding, focusing on what comes to mind naturally and transforming that into something soulful and symbolic which is the true essence of design.
