CopperChem Limited is an innovative Australian copper mining company, producing copper sulphate and copper concentrate. The company’s operations are based near the township of Cloncurry in north-west Queensland, 124km from Mt Isa. CopperChem is committed to local and indigenous employment. The historic Great Australian Mine (GAM), first discovered by the explorer Ernest Henry in the 1860’s, forms part of CopperChem’s resource portfolio and is actively mined today. Ore is currently mined in three open pits at a rate of approximately 700,000 tonnes per year. Planning is underway for future ore supply at several other projects including the Mt. Colin open pit and underground mine 60km from Cloncurry, and there is access to further suitable ore within 1,800km² of company tenements in the Cloncurry and Mt. Isa region.
