REPtember

We started REPtember in 2015 because we saw just how easy it was for our children, and other other children, to spend all day glued to today's technology. These outlets can seemingly entertain for hours and rarely require kids to even lift a finger and as parents we often find ourselves giving in, even just momentarily, whilst fitting in a few chores here and there! Sure, we can force kids to head outdoors and exercise, but ultimately if they don't perceive it as exciting, it's then difficult to create and maintain a habit out of. We as parent's need to get out there and educate them about the benefits of movement in a creative and stimulating way, taking them from attentive and entertained all the way to exhausted! In Australia and other developed countries we are so lucky to have public playgrounds and parks with swings, slides, monkey bars, fly foxes and much more. These parks not only excite our children, but also challenge them and help them develop functional movements. Functional movement exercises are fun, fast, efficient and effective and they have been proven by educational, cognitive, psychological, medical and behavioral research to be one of the most effective ways to get children to engage with and retain what is being taught to them. Moreover, it builds confidence and habits that will help children lead more active lives as adults, reducing the risk of disease (e.g. Cardiovascular). As a family we came up with what we believe is a great way to raise awareness about functional movement, whilst also raising money for children that are not as fortunate as ours. So this September we hope you take the REPtember challenge and help build a more active future for our children!
