Populace Threads

Populace Threads was born from the desire to build a giant community of friends to share clothes with, and by the (perhaps lofty) belief, that by doing so, together we could help save the planet. Did you know that the average consumer wears a piece of clothing just seven times before throwing it out? In fact, the fastest-growing household waste in Australia and many other countries around the world today is clothing. Each person (not household, but person) is buying around 27kg of textiles each year and then throwing around 23kgs of textiles into landfill each year – landfill that can take up to 200 years to break down. Now, don’t get us wrong – we need clothes. In fact….all of us here at Populace Threads LOVE clothing and fashion. BUT….if I have a wardrobe and you always like what I’m wearing, and you have a wardrobe and I always like what you’re wearing, and I share your stuff and you share my stuff….then what’s to say we can’t do that on a bigger scale? At a neighbourhood, suburb, country – maybe even a global scale?! How do we do that and make it easy and accessible to everyone? That’s Populace Threads! We’re only just starting on the journey, but our vison is that Populace Threads will become a social community that brings together consumers, retailers, designers, not for profits, and anyone else who believes that we can do things better than we are now, to create a global social movement in fashion.
