Play Africa's mission is to offer every child an educational experience worthy of his or her potential, to nourish a sense of belonging, and to engage and inspire all visitors to dream about the possibilities inside themselves, their families and their communities.
We pioneer inclusive public learning spaces in South Africa, creating engaged citizens and healthy communities by inviting all visitors to discover new worlds, to wonder, to ask questions and to imagine a better future through interactive, hands-on exhibits, programming and play.
Based at the iconic Constitution Hill, we bring children and families together through exceptional early learning experiences. We serve thousands of South Africa's children ages 0-10, their families and schools with high-quality hands-on learning enrichment across a range of disciplines, including health, STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths), the creative arts, and children's rights.
We help create engaged citizens prepared to think critically and creatively to thrive in a global economy, helping children develop creativity, problem-solving and other critical 21st-century skills needed to thrive in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Through our mobile outreach programmes, we bring our children's museum experiences to children in their own communities, from Diepsloot to Orange Farm.
Since 2014, we’ve partnered with more than 115 South African government schools and community-based organisations (CBOs) to create groundbreaking interactive early learning opportunities for children and families.
We are globally-connected, and have partnered with other major children's museums (currently we have programmes with Chicago Children's Museum, Kohl Children's Museum of Greater Chicago, and Madison Children's Museum), major global education institutions such as the Lego Foundation, Sesame Workshop and 9 universities.
