We’re a cinema chain with 19 cineplexes throughout South Africa. We have a history going back to the first Metro Theatre in downtown Johannesburg, which opened in 1932. In 1988, our name was changed from Metro Theatres to Nu Metro Theatres, and, in 2008, to Nu Metro Cinemas. No stranger to innovation, we introduced luxury cinemas to South Africa in 2001, with the Nu Metro Cinema Privé concept. A year later, in 2002, we launched the Girls’ Night Out monthly movie outing—a concept that has become hugely successful, and we are flattered that it has its share of imitators. Our first digital cinema was launched in December, 2006, and now every single screen on the circuit is fully digital. In 2014, we launched the immersive, large-screen, 4k, 11.1-channel surround cinema concept, called Scene Xtreme. Our luxury, business class cinemas are branded Scene VIP. We’re also an exclusive outlet for multi-sensory 4DX technology in South African cinemas. It's your scene.
