Description
Information
The churches of reformed origin (grounded in the Calvinistic Reformation of the 16th century) came to the Cape since 6 April 1652. The church in the Cape was a branch from the tree in the Netherlands and resorted under the domain of Amsterdam for the duration of the Dutch occupation of the Cape of Good Hope. The Netherdutch Reformed Church is one of the larger denominations in a family of churches in South Africa rooted in the classical European tradition. It runs a Theological seminary where pastors are trained, accredited by the University of Pretoria. It has a strong presence especially in the Free State, Gauteng, North West, Northern and Mpumalanga provinces.
