NatureSpace Partnership designed, manages and delivers the District Licensing Scheme for great crested newts operating in many authorities across England. We work with developers and participating local authorities to assess development proposals under the scheme, advising on the scheme’s requirements. All costs to use the scheme are proportionate to the net impact of development.
The scheme was developed by a consortium of organisations – The Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust, Freshwater Habitats Trust and Nature Metrics – in conjunction with the South Midlands local planning authorities. NatureSpace delivers the scheme to alleviate development issues surrounding great crested newts and to improve the conservation status of newts simultaneously.
The scheme is being delivered in:
Bedford Borough Council, Buckinghamshire Council, Central Bedfordshire Council, Cheltenham Borough Council, Cherwell District Council, Cotswold District Council, Forest of Dean District Council, Gloucester City Council, Gloucestershire County Council, Milton Keynes Council, North Northamptonshire Council, Oxford City Council, Oxfordshire County Council, South Oxfordshire District Council, Stroud District Council, Tewkesbury Borough Council, Vale of the White Horse District Council, West Northamptonshire Council, West Oxfordshire District Council, Eastbourne Borough Council, Hastings Borough Council, Lewes District Council, Rother District Council, Brighton and Hove City Council and Wealden District Council, Staffordshire County Council, Tamworth Borough Council, Lichfield District Council, South Staffordshire District Council, East Staffordshire Borough Council, Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, Newcastle-Under-Lyme Borough Council, Stafford Borough Council.
