At exactly the time when computers were appearing on every desktop, I began my first job in IT. I didn't know it then but I was a closet geek and became instantly hooked - immersing myself in every aspect of business software, how it worked and how to make it work better - from the user interface to databases and programming to the hardware and networking that tied it all together. I despised having to do things in a way that was clunky or repetitious and was often frustrated by how technology was misapplied - simply doing the same things, but on a computer.
