About MS. RPRSNTD
As I lay in my bed on a hot summer night in 2013, in my shitty Echo Park apartment, I become increasingly upset as I scrolled through photos and videos of Detroit ruin-porn. Hoping to find inspiration elsewhere, I give up and move on to Instagram. I see nothing but beautiful white women in bikinis, on rooftops, and in helicopters. I see bros on skateboards, bros behind turntables, and bros behind graffiti cans. In a fit of rage, I threw my phone against the wall and burst into tears. I had had enough.
If no one is going to represent for people that look like me, I am just going to have to do it myself.
From that moment on, I knew it was my duty as a creative to advocate for women who feel misrepresented - whether it be for the color of their skin, their gender, the shape of their body, and everything in between.
It was that moment on Tuesday, August 2013 at 1:01 AM when MS. RPRSNTD was born.
