K-5 Math Teaching Resources is a leading, New York City-based boutique math consultancy firm, dedicated to transforming the teaching and learning of mathematics. Our consulting and professional development work is focused on increasing teachers’ and administrators’ pedagogical and conceptual understanding of the teaching and learning of mathematics. Our work is deeply rooted in current educational theory and practice, and in the principle that high quality teaching begins with the teacher’s own deep subject matter knowledge. We use a variety of research-based and evidence-validated professional development methodologies designed to deepen content knowledge and refine teaching practices, closing the knowledge gap between what teachers learned themselves and what they are expected to teach. Our process results in the high quality implementation of comprehensive mathematics instruction for all students. We put the emphasis on practices that will allow teachers to turn students into critical thinkers and problem solvers - skills that are not only key to participation in higher-level mathematics beyond elementary school, but that have repercussive effects on the entirety of a student’s academic outlook and performance. K-5 Math also runs a nationally-recognized website for math educators which provides teaching resources aligned with the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics.
