Description
Information
The Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project (ILAP) helps low-income immigrants improve their legal status and works for more just and humane laws and policies affecting immigrants. ILAP is Maine’s only statewide provider of free and low-cost comprehensive immigration legal aid and advocacy for low-income Maine residents. ILAP was initiated in 1993 and, in response to the rising need for immigration legal assistance, became a staffed legal aid agency in 2000. ILAP delivers services through four complementary components: (i) the Immigration Clinic for persons needing help but lacking major legal complications; (ii) Full Representation for individuals whose cases are likely to be denied without attorney intervention; (iii) Education and Outreach for community members and service providers; and (iv) the Impact Project advocating for systemic reforms that benefit immigrants in Maine generally.
