Alberta is undergoing a significant transformation of its electricity supply as older, coal-fired power plants are being shut down and new, renewable sources are taking their place. GroupSolar is a community solar project that provides individuals the opportunity to invest directly in utility scale solar plants located in rural southern Alberta, where they can produce the most power. Each individual owner can supply their household, business or farm’s electricity requirements from the generation they own. By setting the price for the electricity delivered to each individual’s home, business or farm at the current market price, each individual investor can fix their electricity costs for the life of the project (25 years) and also generate an attractive return on their investment.
