Founded in 1996 by principals and co-creative directors Janis Provisor and Brad Davis, Fort Street Studio is renowned for its painterly hand-knotted wild silk and wool carpets that combine the traditional with modern, sophisticated aesthetics.
Fort Street Studio's innovative designs are visually reminiscent of sophisticated abstract watercolors with bleeding hues, unexpected color combinations, and painterly effects. Inspired by everything from nature to fashion to classical and traditional patterning, the Fort Street Studio collection is ever growing. The originators of the painterly style in hand-knotted carpets, Provisor and Davis' hands-on involvement in the painstaking yarn dyeing and in-house pattern printing show they care about every knot that goes into hand crafting a Fort Street Studio carpet.
The company now has worldwide operations, with its headquarters in New York City, and offices and showrooms in Los Angeles and Hong Kong. In January 2014 the couple was invited to judge the Domotex Carpet Design Awards, which recognizes excellence in design of hand-made carpets, at the world’s most important international carpet and flooring show. Widely recognized for its unique and luxurious creations, Fort Street Studio has mounted highly acclaimed exhibitions in Paris, London and Milan, and their carpets can be found in homes of prominent international figures including Elton John, Jon Bon Jovi, Brad Pitt, and Madonna.
In late 2010, owners and creative directors, Janis Provisor and Brad Davis were tapped by the venerable French fashion house, Hermés to design the carpets for their new home line, Hermés La Maison. Another honor for Fort Street Studio was the inclusion of their exclusive carpets in the David Rockwell-designed Oscars Greenroom at the 86th annual Academy Awards in March 2014.
