Environment Canterbury (ECan) is the trading name for Canterbury Regional Council, the local government body for the Canterbury region of New Zealand. Environment Canterbury is the regional council working with the people of Canterbury to manage the region's air, water and land. We are committed to the sustainable management of our environment while promoting the region's economic, social and cultural well-being. Following a government review of Environment Canterbury and the passing of new legislation, our 14 elected councillors were replaced by seven commissioners on 1 May, 2010. Our vision is to facilitate sustainable development in the Canterbury region. Te huawaere i te kauneke tauwhiro i Waitaha.
