Het CIBG is een uitvoeringsorganisatie van VWS met taken die liggen op drie gebieden: zorgregisters, identiteitsbeheer in de zorg en beoordelen/verstrekken in de zorg. Kwaliteit en betrouwbaarheid staan hoog in het vaandel. De organisatie is als project gestart in 1995. De naam CIBG stamt uit 2000 en staat voor Centraal Informatiepunt Beroepen Gezondheidszorg. Sindsdien heeft de organisatie veel meer taken gekregen en is de naam niet meer ladingdekkend. Daarom wordt alleen de lettercombinatie CIBG gebruikt.
