BookSpring builds early literacy in children and families through healthcare, education, and the community. Our vision is a world of families reading and succeeding together.
BookSpring works through schools, libraries, childcare centers, and clinics to distribute books to low income children from birth through age 12. We also provide parent engagement and professional development programs for medical personnel and educators throughout the Austin community to encourage best practices in reading aloud activities between adults and children. ReBook, our gently used book program, collects gently used children's books from the public and partners with dozens of local organizations to get high quality, developmentally appropriate children's books into the hands of kids!

BookSpring offers a variety of services aimed at promoting early literacy among children and families. These include programs like 'Books for Me,' which provides children with books to take home, and 'Parent BookClub,' which engages parents in reading activities with their children. Additionally, 'ReadWell' focuses on improving reading skills through targeted interventions, while 'Pediatric Literacy Kits' equip healthcare providers with resources to encourage reading during pediatric visits.
BookSpring partners with schools and libraries to create a supportive environment for literacy development. Through initiatives like 'BookSpring Days,' the organization organizes community events that promote reading and provide access to books. These collaborations also include training for educators and librarians on effective literacy strategies, ensuring that children receive consistent support both at school and in their communities.
'SummerSuccess' is a program designed to prevent the 'summer slide' in literacy skills among children. By providing engaging reading materials and activities during the summer months, BookSpring helps children maintain and enhance their reading abilities when school is not in session. This program is particularly beneficial for families who may not have access to books or reading resources during the summer break.
Absolutely! Parents are encouraged to participate in BookSpring's initiatives, particularly through programs like the 'Parent BookClub,' which fosters a community of parents dedicated to improving their children's literacy. Additionally, parents can volunteer for events, contribute to book drives, and engage in workshops that provide strategies for reading at home. BookSpring values the role of parents in their children's literacy journey and offers various ways for them to get involved.
BookSpring provides a diverse selection of books tailored to various age groups and reading levels. The organization focuses on high-quality, age-appropriate literature that reflects the interests and backgrounds of the children served. This includes picture books, early readers, and chapter books that promote a love for reading and support literacy development. The goal is to ensure that every child has access to books that inspire and engage them.
BookSpring employs various assessment tools and metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of its literacy programs. This includes tracking reading levels, participation rates, and feedback from families and educators. Additionally, the organization conducts surveys and assessments to gauge improvements in children's literacy skills and overall engagement with reading. By analyzing this data, BookSpring continuously refines its programs to better meet the needs of the communities it serves.
