About BigSis (Insect Control)
BigSis (http://bigsis.tech) is a fast-growing UK start-up that provides chemical-free insect control to farmers. Its first solution is a global breakthrough for preventative control of SWD that is supported by published successful field trial results (https://doi.org/10.3390/insects13040328). BigSis is launching this solution in England for 2023 as a season-long service, including release and monitoring. The high unmet need and simple adoption has created very strong traction from growers, fruit marketing firms and retailers. BigSis already has its first commercial orders in hand and is adopting a multi-channel distribution strategy to ensure broad market access.
BigSis solutions are based on the sterile insect technique (SIT) using an innovative automated system to produce the sterile male insects. As a regulatory-light platform technology, BigSis will expand internationally from 2024, initially to Southern Europe and USA. It will launch solutions for several new pests from 2025 onwards, creating a substantial business over the next 5 years.
