Base Operations

Base uses community data to help people avoid crime and stay safe. It aggregates crime statistics and visualizes the data in heat maps, allowing users to quickly understand the security situation of a city in real time. Base is meant for developing cities with high crime rates but little information accessible to the public about the security situation on the ground. Imagine a “Waze for crime.” It aggregates data collected through four methods: 1) crowdsourcing reports from users, 2) web crawling and collecting millions of data points for news and social media, 3) taking government data and accounting for historical biases, and 4) gathering miscellaneous databases from international organizations and partner companies. The four sources are layered together and represent visually information previously inaccessible to citizens. Residents and tourist alike can plan routes from point A to point B to minimize crime exposure, customize alerts for types of crime in demarcated areas (geofencing), and view trends over time. The platform is free to the public, but companies can purchase a subscription to a version specifically designed for security managers. Base also uses its proprietary data to design tailored solutions to business’s complex security problems. Base can help insurance companies optimize premiums, freight companies set routes, consultancies station their teams, real estate developers decide where to develop, etc. Our mission is to empower citizens and businesses to make better everyday decisions about their safety and security.
