Autonomy's HAMI Framework is a system of guidelines and principles that support the best practices of user interfacing with AI-Powered Autonomous Machines. In a race to build the most advanced AI, HAMI focuses on Human factors and the point where the two meet. The framework provides Artificial Intelligence with predictive social skills that will help it to better understand & interact with people. Computers have become ubiquitous in modern society, to the point where they've become arbitrary entities, part of the ambient environment we live in. A.I-powered assistance robots and self-driving cars widely differ from these ambient technologies we've grown used to; they exhibit observational and situational awareness and in doing so they provoke a stronger notion of an Intelligent agent. Because of the complex, intelligent and human-like behaviour of these machines, humans eventually attribute mental states to them, evoking a human feeling that these machines not only possess knowledge but also have intent and beliefs. The HAMI Framework allows developers to reinforce positive connections between Humans and AI through better Intent communications. Including humans in the decision making process of an A.I helps users trust a machine and enhance the bond they form together. A machine that can anticipate its user’s needs and intentions by responding to subtle or even unintentional cues, instead of pre-written list of verbal commands can truly begin to “understand” what is going on around it.
