In a fantastic waterside location at the heart of Bristol’s harbourside, Arnolfini is one of Europe’s leading centres for the contemporary arts, presenting innovative, experimental work in the visual arts, performance, dance, film, music and events, accompanied by a leading programme of learning and participation activities. Five exhibition spaces, a theatre/cinema auditorium, Reading Room and Light/Dark Studios are housed in the Grade II listed, fully accessible building. The converted warehouse also contains an arts bookshop as well as a Café Bar serving local and seasonal produce
With the support of its public stakeholders, Arnolfini is going through an exciting period of renewal. The new CEO is leading the organisation into a stable future of international artistic ambition which is firmly rooted at the heart of Bristol’s cultural offer. Arnolfini has a loyal audience with over 500,000 visits made to the building annually.
The organisation comprises a limited company with charitable status and a wholly owned trading company. It is governed by a Board of Trustees, who are also directors of the company. It is in receipt of stakeholder funding from Arts Council England and Bristol City Council and has to raise any additional funding through commercial income, public and private subsidy.
A partnership with University of the West of England centred around the Arts Faculty use of the building offers and exciting new opportunity for Arnolfini over the medium term.
Entrance to the building and the exhibition spaces is completely free making Arnolfini an ideal place to spend some time whether you've just got a few minutes or a few hours to spare.
The organisation was established in 1961, moving to its current harbourside location in 1975 - a Grade II listed former tea warehouse dating from the 1830s.
Arnolfini is a partner of Tate, and exchanges programmes, ideas and skills with the Plus Tate network of visual arts organisations across the UK.
