Bruno Huettel

Bruno Huettel currently serves as the Head of the Genome Centre at the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research (MPIPZ), where he plays a pivotal role in advancing plant genomics through cutting-edge sequencing technologies. His expertise lies in harnessing the full potential of next-generation sequencing (NGS) platforms such as Illumina for high-throughput short-read sequencing, as well as third-generation sequencing methods like Pacific Biosciences’ Single Molecule Real-Time (SMRT) sequencing and Oxford Nanopore Technologies’ long-read platforms. These technologies enable Bruno and his team to generate comprehensive genomic and transcriptomic data, facilitating the elucidation of complex plant genomes, structural variations, and epigenetic modifications.

In his leadership role, Bruno oversees the development and optimization of library preparation protocols for 2nd and 3rd generation sequencing, ensuring high-quality data acquisition for diverse research projects. His expertise extends to long-read sequencing technologies, which are instrumental in resolving repetitive regions and assembling highly contiguous genome sequences.
