Benjamin Chima

Benjamin Chima currently serves as the Nutrition Program Officer at Helen Keller International, where he plays a pivotal role in advancing the organization’s efforts to combat Vitamin A deficiency among vulnerable populations in Nigeria. His expertise lies in designing and implementing community-based nutrition interventions, with a particular focus on child health and maternal well-being. In his current role, Benjamin oversees the Vitamin A Supplementation Project, collaborating closely with the Ebonyi State Government and other state partners to ensure the successful delivery of high-impact nutrition services to children aged 1-5 years. His responsibilities include coordinating baseline surveys, conducting quantitative research, and managing monitoring and evaluation activities to assess program effectiveness and inform strategic adjustments.

Benjamin’s strong background in community development and his skills in capacity building are instrumental in training local health workers and community volunteers on best practices for supplementation and behavioral change communication. He has developed tailored IEC materials, including community behavioral counseling cards, flashcards, and training manuals, to enhance community engagement and improve compliance with supplementation schedules. His expertise in project management, strategic planning, and opportunity management ensures that the program remains aligned with national health policies and international best practices.

With over five years of experience working on community and school-based projects, Benjamin is adept at creating sustainable solutions that address malnutrition and improve health outcomes. His proficiency in capacity development, research, and extension curriculum development positions him as a key driver in scaling up nutrition interventions and fostering community ownership.
