About William Tsolo

📖 Summary

I am a skilled and attentive business analyst with many years of experience in implementing and supporting change on investment bank’s risk management platforms. I have worked on various change projects and have also managed a production team (a.k.a. Run The Bank). My expertise lies in financial market data and its importance in risk management. My experience of the Asset Control platform has allowed me to gain valuable knowledge of market data vendors and the market data associated with various asset classes. This experience has allowed me to play an important role in the risk management process.Wholesale Market Risk Transformation - Business Analyst @ *Contracting at HSBC* Role Profile: My role is embedded within the Wholesale Market Risk Transformation department (formerly called Traded Risk Change Delivery) that is responsible for delivering business and regulatory projects within the Traded Risk department at HSBC. It is within this group function that I work as a BA on one of the strategic components called Tiger Scenario Engine (TSE). TSE is responsible for sourcing and maintaining historical market data (via Asset Control) as well as delivering scenario data for various risk engines. Core responsibilities include: *Requirements gathering from regional and global stakeholders. *Requirements analysis. *Drafting the Business Requirement Document (a.k.a. BRD). *User Acceptance Testing. *Project management activities such as drafting project plans, testing plans as well as sending out regular communication to stakeholders of the project. Achievements: *I am currently working as the lead TSE business analyst on the Equity Onboarding Project. This project involves migrating some Equity risk processes from the current architecture onto the TSE strategic component. *I am also currently working as the lead TSE business analyst on the “Negative Rates” regulatory project. This project is looking to implement an enhanced interest rate scenario methodology across the Group. *I am also assisting with the optimization of the HSBC implementation of Asset Control. From September 2013 to Present (2 years 2 months) London, United KingdomSenior Manager @ Role Profile: My primary responsibility was to support, manage and develop the team of Asset Control (AC) business specialists so that live processes or items in development would function according to business requirements and expectations. My team of 5 colleagues supported Front Office, Market Risk, Finance, Operations and Regulatory live processes such as VaR, Stress Testing and IPV that all impacted regulatory reporting by the bank. Key Achievements: Extension of the CADII Historical Data Simulation VaR model to cater for an extended stressed VaR window starting from 2007 across FX & Rates, Credit and Equities business areas. *This involved a time pressured review of the quality of all historical market data sets in AC *Engagement with various Market Risk managers including head of the Market Risk *Engagement with Project team members for various Front Office systems Extension of the VaR model to meet other regions’ requirements within the banking group. From March 2012 to September 2013 (1 year 7 months) London, United KingdomAsset Control Business Analyst @ Role Profile: Worked on the Asset Control platform as a business analyst to implement CADII FSA requirements for the bank’s Credit and Equities trading business areas. The CADII framework implemented a more robust pricing control and risk management approach for each of the business areas and the CADII waiver obtained from the FSA led to lower capital charges for the business areas. My role as a BA consisted of learning new financial products, new business processes and new methodologies for Market Risk and Product Control. I would typically be given business requirements in a documented or verbal form of communication that I would clarify and ratify with the business sponsor of the intended change. Once business requirement was understood, I would write a business specification document for the developers to use to code up the new or improved business process. Once the code was developed then I would be involved in unit testing, setting up test cases, business user acceptance testing (UAT) and deployment of the code into a live environment. After deployment my role as a BA was to help bed down the new process as well as to ensure that the end users understood and utilised the new or improved process. Secondary to my role as a BA on the projects, I also managed a business team of 3 colleagues. Key CADII project deliverables: *Worked on the VaR and Stress Testing frameworks for Credit and Equity trading businesses *Implementation of rating data (S&P, Moodys, Fitch) for Credit business *Implementation of IPV and Provisions framework for Credit and Equities business areas Other Achievements: * Developed more transparent reporting for Product Control IPV * Setup the Reuters DataScope Select (DSS) interface on Asset Control * Worked on the Murex GTS Main branch upgrade * Assisted with the Static Data Repository (SDR) decommission project and the implementation of Trade Support functionality within the Asset Control platform for the benefit of Operations From October 2007 to February 2012 (4 years 5 months) London, United KingdomAsset Control Business Support @ Role Profile: Learnt Asset Control from scratch and was part of the project team that setup the Asset Control platform at Standard Bank CIB. Once live, we supported processes for Market Risk, Middle Office, Front Office and Back Office. Achievements: * Part of team that implemented the first Asset Control installation in Africa. * Helped with initiatives to expand the platform to the London office for CADII FSA requirements.
