http://www.jobyaviation.com/S2/ From September 2014 to Present (1 year 4 months) Hardware Electrical Engineer @ Requirements Gathering from Product Team, Schematic Design involving Power, Analog as well a high speed Digital electronics, High Density PCB layout of multi-layer Rigid/Flex PCBs (Test points on every net for Flying Probe testing), Coordinating with CMs for board fabrication, Board Bring up and Design Verification Testing of various modular satellite boards namely Radio Modem Board, Ethernet Interface Board, Actuator Board, Air Speed Sensor Board, IMU board, etc that go around the Autopilot to form the Airware Architecture for Drones. The goal was to have them ready for manufacturing with least number of iterations and most of the functionalities on my boards worked right in the first iteration. From November 2013 to July 2014 (9 months) Hardware Design Engineer @ Hardware Research Lab of Amazon Inc.
An innovative dynamic system / project for consumer application (signed Non-Disclosure Agreement). From December 2012 to October 2013 (11 months) Electrical Hardware Engineer @ Supervised by Jon Wagner, CTO and Nancy Sun, Senior Electrical Engg.. I have been working on Digital Design for FPGAs, System/Wiring/Integration Design and Schematic and High Density Layout Design for Circuit Boards, Testing/Debugging and In-house Rework for various Electric Drive Train Components, namely the Motor Controller that drives an AC Induction / AC Permanent Magnet Motor and Vehicle Dash board / Data Logging System. From January 2011 to November 2012 (1 year 11 months) Hardware/Electrical/Robotics Engineering Consultant @ Support Electrical systems on biped walking robot M2V2 From January 2011 to August 2011 (8 months) Robotics Research Associate @ Supervised by Research Scientists: Dr. Jerry Pratt and Dr. Peter Neuhaus.
I worked on the improving the Electrical Design of the biped walking robot M2V2. Walking Algorithms tested on M2V2 will be applied on Robonaunt2 (NASA’s humanoid robot). I applied EtherCAT bus to communicate between computer and various motor driver modules while ensuring maximum speed, least possible wires and robustness of protocol. This involved making small motor driver modules (that can be embedded in the limbs of humanoid robot) which can drive a brushless DC motor, interface two Encoders for Position / Force, estimate velocity, closed loop current and force control and have flexible interface using EtherCAT, USB, SSI and LVDS . EtherCAT is a high speed (100Mbps) bus protocol for automation applications which require short data update times. From August 2010 to January 2011 (6 months) Research Hardware Engineer @ I made the complete Electrical System for a Vestibulator (like a big turn table) for biomedical application which will be used to do experiments on Autistic children and study the response of their Vestibular System (Inner Ear). The Electrical System included custom designed and fabricated 80v/ 5A Brushless DC motor Driver, custom designed and fabricated board with an Altera Cyclone II FPGA and speed/position linear controller, trapezoidal velocity / Sinusoidal position trajectory generator in Digital Hardware designed using VHDL. I made the Brushless DC motor using a Washing Machine motor and added Hall Effect sensors to it for position feedback used for phase commutation.
