Steven Timm

Steven Timm currently serves as the Project Lead for the Virtual Facility Project at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), where he plays a pivotal role in advancing the laboratory's virtualization and cloud computing strategies. With a strong background in OS virtualization technologies such as Xen and KVM, Steven is at the forefront of integrating dynamic provisioning capabilities into Fermilab's infrastructure. This initiative not only enhances the efficiency of resource allocation but also allows for seamless bursting to commercial cloud platforms, thereby optimizing computational resources for scientific research.

In his current position within the Experimental Computing Facilities department of the Scientific Computing Division, Steven is spearheading key projects that leverage his expertise in cloud computing and the deployment of highly available redundant services under Linux. His work focuses on creating a robust virtual environment that supports complex simulations and big data analysis, essential for the cutting-edge experiments conducted at Fermilab. By employing advanced technologies and methodologies, including machine learning and cluster management, he aims to provide researchers with scalable and flexible computing resources that can adapt to the evolving demands of experimental physics.

Steven’s proficiency in scripting languages such as Perl and Bash, combined with his experience in software engineering and database management with MySQL, enables him to develop innovative solutions that streamline operations and enhance the overall user experience.
