About Robert Maessen

📖 Summary

I work with Linux and Open Source Software since 2002. In the beginning it was frustrating but the more I worked with it the more I wanted to know about it, in the beginning it was more about desktop applications and how to make them work, addicted to Photoshop I had to make that work under Linux. After that was clear and could find my way on the desktop I started looking at the server world, wow all these things you can do with one Linux distribution... remember that was 10 years ago, these days they also added, Virtual Machines KVM XEN, clustering, High Availability, Virtual Desktops, SPICE and so on. Looking at RedHat 6 it is really a big step forward in capability's. In the end does a customer really care about the tools we are using to achieve there goals? Right, not really. So what is Linux and OSS? I use them as a set of tools that I can use to build applications to satisfy our customers needs. My goal is not to convince people that it is cheap or free (maybe the application is, it still takes money to implement it) but start using the advantages and the flexibility that comes with it. After all it's been out there for a longer time.. just see what it can do for you.
