Michelle McFadyen is the Deputy General Manager Corporate and Community with Bellingen Shire Council in NSW. Michelle McFadyen is the Deputy General Manager Corporate and Community with Bellingen Shire Council in NSW. Prior to taking up this role, Michelle was the the Chief Executive Officer of the Longreach Regional Council, a council amalgamated from the three shire councils of Ilfracombe, Longreach and Isisford. Before amalgamations, Michelle was the CEO of Ilfracombe Shire Council and also did a two and a half year term as CEO of the Boulia Shire Council in far central western Queensland. Prior to her Local Government roles, Michelle was the General Manager of Local Buy and spent 6 years with the Local Government Association of Queensland.
Michelle holds a Bachelor of Business with a major in management and leadership, and was awarded the Griffith University Award for Academic Excellence and Dean’s commendation award for her studies. Michelle also holds an Associate Diploma in Recreation Studies and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors Diploma course. Michelle has been a member of the LGMA for over 10 years and was a sitting elected Board Member representing the State at large from 2010 to 2012. Michelle also held a two year position on the Board of the Outback Queensland Tourism Association.
Michelle's career goals continue to be to enjoy a permanent and long term, results orientated position that provides challenges, and the opportunity to be directly involved in the growth and development of a progressive organisation.
Michelle's key strengths include leadership and communication skills, the ability to effectively manage change and strategic planning. Michelle is results oriented and forward looking and is objective and self motivated, practical and efficient.
Michelle's interests include triathlons and trekking and she annually guides a group across the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea.
Deputy General Manager Corporate and Community @ The Bellingen Shire Council is located on the Mid North Coast of NSW halfway between Sydney and Brisbane, close to Coffs Harbour. It has a total area of 1,605sq km with a coastline of approximately 11km with State Forests and National Parks covering 53% of the total area. The Shire population is approximately 13,500. Council has a Mayor and six councillors, a staff of over 150 and a budget of over $30m. The role of Deputy General Manager Corporate and Community is responsible for the areas of Governance and Engagement, Finance, Sustainability and Natural Resource Management, Information and Technology Services, Community Wellbeing and Economic and Business Development and is the primary position for Acting for the General Manager as required. From November 2012 to Present (3 years 1 month) Chief Executive Officer @ Following the amalgamation of the Ilfracombe Shire Council, Michelle took on the position of Director of Corporate Services, a newly created position, within the Longreach Regional Council before being successful as the CEO in July 2008. The Longreach Regional Council encompasses over 40,000sq km and has a population of almost 5000 people. Consisting of four towns and much agricultural land, Longreach Regional Council hosts both the largest, and the smallest, town in the Central West. Council has a Mayor and six councillors, a staff of around 200 FTE's and a budget of almost $60m. Chairperson – Central West Outback Queensland Tourism Authority (2006-2008) From 2006 to 2012 (6 years) Chief Executive Officer @ Ilfracombe Shire Council was located in central western Queensland, 27km east of Longreach and encompassed 6500sqkm. The Ilfracombe town had a population of approximately 200, with the shire population being around 400. Ilfracombe Shire Council employed approximately 30 full time staff and had an annual operating budget of approximately $7 million. Ilfracombe Shire Council was the major employer in the town with the pastoral industry prominent in the Shire. Due to the amalgamation of the Ilfracombe Shire this position ceased to exist on 14 March 2008. From November 2006 to March 2008 (1 year 5 months) Chief Executive Officer @ Boulia Shire is located in far central western Queensland, encompasses some 61,000sqkm, and has two towns, Boulia and Urandangi. Boulia has a population of approximately 300, with the shire population being around 600. Boulia Shire Council employs just over 50 full time staff and 15 full time contractors and has an annual operating budget of approximately $15 million and capital budget of $5 million per annum. Boulia Shire Council is the major employer in the town. From July 2004 to November 2006 (2 years 5 months)
