Founder and CTO of Ozlo Inc., developing Ozlo, an integrated knowledge platform powering the intelligent future.Acquired by Facebook, August 2017. Palo Alto, CAPrincipal Engineer @ Mozilla Corporation Led research and development of new products and technologies to support the free, open and participatory Internet, and played an intrapraneurial role to launch these products internally.Conceived and invented the distributed identity verification system for Mozilla Persona (aka BrowserID), recruited development team, and launched internal product group to deliver the Persona product.Developed APIs and prototypes for the Firefox Application Platform. Coordinated internal product teams (client platform, website development, sever operations, privacy, security) to deliver an HTML5-based application platform across multiple desktop and mobile operating systems, including the Firefox OS.Led investigation and prototyping of new services on the Firefox platform, including payment services, lightweight portable digital receipts, social service integration, and contact management.Represented Mozilla at standardization bodies and conferences, including the World Wide Web Consortium and the Internet Identity Workshop. Motivated and hosted the W3C Identity in the Browser workshop. (2011) From September 2009 to August 2012 (3 years) Principal Engineer @ Cisco Systems Principal engineer in the Application Delivery Business Unit, focused on scalability and optimization of applications over TCP/IP and HTTP protocols.Responsibilities include:- creation of next-generation data center strategy, focused on virtualization, Universal Computing System, Unified Fabric, and Nexus 7000 switching platform- coordination with switching, firewall, and server/virtualization business units on data center strategy- software architecture of current and next-generation application delivery controllers, including device virtualization, clustering, high availability, interaction with peer devices- champion of test-driven development and automated unit testing methodologies for improved software quality From March 2007 to September 2009 (2 years 7 months) Chief Architect @ Cisco Systems Conceived, designed, and led implementation of the Reactivity Gateway, a secure web messaging product used by major financial and manufacturing companies. Acquired by Cisco Systems in March 2007.Responsibilities:- Architected and led development of a highly configurable HTTP reverse proxy product with a rich Java-based web front end.- Implemented event-based HTTP/HTTPS proxy capable of sustaining >50,000 TPS with argument validation and configurable policy (C/C++).- Implemented streaming XML parser capable of >1000Mbit well-formedness validation, XML schema validation, 15000 TPS XML Signature validation, XML Encryption, XSL.- Implemented SAML single-sign-on protocol and represented Reactivity at Liberty Alliance interop events.- Provided technical expertise during fundraising- Interfaced with senior architects at customer sites to explain the product and develop product roadmap From April 2001 to March 2007 (6 years) Director of New Ventures @ Reactivity, Inc. Worked with startup teams to incubate new ventures inside Reactivity, raise initial funding, and spin out ventures as standalone companies.- Zaplet, Inc., raised series A funding from Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers for their AppMail interactive inbox product. I invented the core technology for Zaplet, developed the prototype, and transitioned the technology once the company was spun out. Zaplet's IP was purchased by Xobni, Inc.- CenterRun raised series A funding from Sequoia Capital for their datacenter automation product. I was the architect for the product startup team and developed the initial prototype of the product. CenterRun was acquired by Sun Microsystems.- In 2001, responding to economic changes, Reactivity changed from an incubator to a direct product model and I became Chief Architect. From 1998 to April 2001 (3 years) Scientist/Engineer @ Apple Computer Researcher and prototyping engineer in the Advanced Technology Group. Worked on early application servers, contextual browsing and searching interfaces, and client-side metasearch technology.- Wrote version 1.0 of "Sherlock", a MacOS-based program for searching multiple locations of information on the Internet. This was the first application of TCP/IP in an application that shipped with the MacOS. The "search plugin" format that I developed for this application has become the de facto standard for search definition.- Developed prototypes of graphical web page editors and one of the first application servers. From June 1994 to March 1998 (3 years 10 months)
