Negotiate and execute license agreements, material transfer agreements, consulting agreements, confidential nondisclosure agreements and other contracts, with commercial, government, and academic partners.
R&D Business Development @ Responsible for the drafting, negotiation and execution of consultancy, confidentiality (CDA), material transfer (MTA), research tool licenses and academic research agreements for client groups in Pfizer’s Research Divisions. Provide business advice to client lines in respect of proposed alliances. Participate and contribute to global working groups.
Technical Expertise/Knowledge: Understanding of legal and business issues associated with business transactions and advanced business/legal principles within R & D processes. Interact directly with counterparts from outside institutions/companies to articulate Pfizer contract policies to third parties.
Decision-making: Differentiate between what is/is not important or urgent and systematically think through issues/problems to arrive at sound judgments. Manage multiple agreement negotiations concurrently and prioritize appropriately. Work on agreements that expose Pfizer to a moderate per-project level of financial risk and consult directly with appropriate Finance Department to manage project-specific budgets within assigned client line.
Innovation/Creativity: Work predominantly with tried and tested procedures, while introducing new knowledge and methodologies. Contribute new ideas to team with a view to improving efficiency of deal-making and execution. Proactively examine new and different ways to get work done.
Teamwork/Collaboration: Interact with internal clients/stakeholders, including R&D BD senior management, Pfizer’s Legal and Finance Divisions, and R&D colleagues. Interact directly with scientific researchers at universities and external companies. Ensure that key stakeholders are involved in important decisions affecting them and seek for feedback from them. Ensure that the viewpoints of R&D BD and internal stakeholders are accurately represented during the deal process. Work proactively to encourage teamwork behaviors within teams. From May 2010 to Present (5 years 8 months) Tech Development Representative @ Interacted with researchers, government agencies, and industry for efficient transfer of intellectual property into and out of TSRI, the largest non-profit biomedical research institute in the United States. Negotiated terms, draft and track licenses, and material transfer agreements. Ensured compliance with governmental regulations and integrity of database. Licensing: Negotiated deals for access to TSRI technologies. Personally negotiated the completion of more than 4000 material transfer agreements with government entities, academic institutions, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical companies. Negotiated and drafted multiple licenses for access to TSRI technology. Articulated TSRI policies regarding licensing to third parties. Extensive understanding of the legal and business issues relating to licensing transactions. Understand the issues around academic freedom and sensitive to the needs of researchers, as well as requirements of corporate licensors and sponsors of research. Interfaced with researchers and corporate leaders to effectively transfer TSRI technology from the laboratory to commercial pipelines. Establishes and maintains key client relationships.
Alliance Management: Assure compliance with complex obligations resulting from TSRI’s large corporate partnerships.
