💼 Past Experience

Before becoming an Emmy Award-nominee and the co-founder of Weta Digital, Matt Welford was a Supervisor at the company Dark Horse Films. In his five years at Dark Horse, Matt supervised a team that produced over twenty-six feature films, including The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Windows 95, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Two Towers, Chronicles of Narnia: The Return of the King, Chronicles of Narnia: The Horse and His Boy, and Chronicles of Narnia: The 300 Year Quest.At Weta Digital, Matt is responsible for the supervision of a team of creatives who produce previsualization, motion capture, visualization, compositing, lighting, shading, and other effects for movies and television. He has a background in VFX, Animation, Photo Graphics, 3D, RenderMan, and computer graphics, and is a skilled professional in creating look development, film, and digital compositing. Matt is also a strong member of the team management and Look Development teams, and has a history of developing effective communication and working together with his team members.

Matt has previous experience from October 2000 to December 2007 as a Renderman and 3D artist with Mirvis, Inc. where he was responsible forRenderman, 3D for video games development, stabilized, telemetry, texture packing, and lighting for feature films. Prior to this, Matt worked at Illusion Animations from October 1990 to October 2000.Matt Welford's education/training: Matt Welford holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Brigham Young University in 2002. After his B.S., Matt completed his MBA from Northeastern University in 2006. Matt has also been a Professional Software Developer since 1997, and has experience directing and animating videos as an animator and 3D artist.
