Born and raised in the suburbs of Washington D.C., La Reid sang, danced and played the piano from the age of 5 and started writing at the age of 8. La Reid’s music has been featured in films and television shows throughout her career. After receiving her music degree fromUSC’s Annenberg School of Communication, La Reid was a music executive at larger record labels, first at Epic Records and then at Arista Records. In 2000, she left Epic to start her own label Arista Records in Greater New York City Area. After 3 years as the CEO at Arista, La Reid founded LaFace Records, an active music production and distribution company, which helped establish the now famous music scene in Atlanta, Georgia. La Reid also served as Chairman and CEO of Epic Records from 2000-2004. During her time at Epic, La Reid discovered Avril Lavigne and worked with superstars Carlos Santana, Aretha Franklin, and Whitney Houston. La Reid founded and was chair of LaFace Records from 1989-2000 and discovered Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Ne-Yo, Jeezy, The Killers, Rick Ross, Fall Out Boy, Big Sean, Kanye West and more.
