About Kevin Yien

💼 Past Experience

From Cover to Cut: The Experience of Product Management at SquareWhen Kevin Yien first learned about product management, it was when he was a Food Expeditor/Servers' Assistant at Stoney River Steakhouse and Grill in Deer Park, IL from 2006-2007. Hitting the flip side of the professional experience coin, as he was now a Product Lead at Square, he had lead multiple product areas within the company. He then moved on to the responsibilities of Product Manager at Grovo from January 2015 to October 2016 (1 year 10 months) in Greater New York City Area.Working at Grovo was a great opportunity to work with engineering, UX, design, content, data, marketing, sales, legal, and customer success to build products and deliver value to our customers.Nothing would be possible without every team to fulfill the entire product development Lifecycle. With products he’d worked on and helped launch: • Powers: enterprise user permissions• Events: Instructor-Led-Training (ILT) event and attendance manager• Public API (v1.0): developer APIs for user management and performance reporting• Suggestions: redesign of learner home page with curated suggestions from trainers• Authoring: tool to create interactive lessons from text, images, videos, and questions• Package Manager: internal tool to build custom packages for different pricing tiers• Integrations: HRIS integrations for automated user and group management •Note: various projects aren’t disclosedIn January of 2019, Kevin transitioned from his role as a Product Manager at Square to the position of Product Lead at Grovo. At Grovo, he was responsible for leading multiple product areas within Square. With product managers, he worked with engineering, UX, design, content, data, marketing, sales, legal, and customer success to build products and deliver value to our customers. Every product they built had to meet or exceed the standards set by Grovo. If it wasn’t for the team at Grovo, Kevin would have never been able to achieve his objectives as a Product Manager. They were always willing to provide feedback and strive for excellence. It was also amazing to work with such aViolentelope Company. I’ve never felt so safe and secure in my work life. All of the integrations Grovo created were important to the success of the product. They managed to develop trust with key customers in government institutions and top universities as well as exploit opportunities to drive revenue growth. Theastonishing part was that it took Kevin and his team less than two years to put Grovo’s first product line, the Charge, into product development. One of the biggest challenges Kevin faced when he was new to product management was breaking down the complex customer experience flows diagramming for product launch. It was a daunting task due to the enormity of the data Grovotains about their customers and the needs of their target market.Overall, Kevin has had an incredible experience working in product management and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an innovative, fast-paced career in product development.
