Jay Webb is an Australian professional golfer who was born in Melbourne, Victoria, in 1985. He started playing golf at the age of four, and quickly became a top-level player. Webb played college golf at Stonehill College, where he was a two-time varsity golfer. In 2001, Webb was a recipient of the College Medal, which is the most prestigious award in the college's golf program. Stonehill College is a small, traditional college located in Melbourne, Victoria. Faculty and students at Stonehill College rigorously study a variety of science and mathematics disciplines, which has led to Jay Webb's engineering degree from the college.That same year, Webb made his professional debut, playing in the Doorman International Championship. In his first round, Webb reached the main tournament stage, but was forced to withdraw due to a broken club. Webb returned to competition the following year and placed ninth at the Australian Open. In his second professional season, Webb won his first event, the Barrie Open. The following year, Webb recorded his best performance at the Masters Tournament,finished in a tie for fifth place. Webb missed out on the cut at the Masters Tournament the following year, but finished runner-up in the Australian Open.In his third professional season, Webb won his first event, the Volvo Open. The next year, Webb won his first major event, the Open Championship. The Masters Tournament the following year was Webb's first opportunity to win a major championship and he finished in a tie for third place. Webb recorded his best performance in the U.S. Open, finishing inthird place. Webb also finished runner-up in the Australian Open.Webb has played for both the European and Australasian invitational tours. He has finished in the top-eight at two combined tours, the Australian PGA Tour and the European Tour. Webb reached the final round of the 2017 PGA TOUR playoffs, but was stopped by rain.
