Heavily revised the Amazon Web Services deployment implementation for one of the products, and planned for the conversion to a new deployment architecture within AWS. The updated deployment both increased security and performance. • Implemented an operational management network for product support within AWS, including support for the Splunk operational data management platform. From June 2013 to December 2013 (7 months) Senior Systems Engineer @ Datacenter architecture, customer deployment and support of Cisco Prime Home (formerly ClearVision). See the ClearAccess section for more information. ClearAccess was acquired by Cisco Systems in April of 2012. From May 2012 to May 2013 (1 year 1 month) Senior Systems Engineer @ • Contributed to the development of a Broadband Forum TR-069 based Automatic Configuration System for Customer Premise Equipment, a web application developed in Java, Scala, and JavaScript. Developed interoperability layers in JavaScript, developed a customer facing device testing portal in Ruby on Rails. Developed significant portions of a JavaScript library used to communicate with devices, developed many of the scripts used by customers and third-party devices. Participated in the Agile development model. • Built out SaaS infrastructure using Amazon EC2 in Europe, including high-performance MySQL and MongoDB. Has also evaluated other cloud providers, and is experienced with VMware ESXi. • Responsible for maintaining legacy infrastructure and architecting new infrastructure for the datacenter SaaS hosting environment, using Ubuntu/RHEL 5.x/CentOS 6.x, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB and many other technologies. Responsible for developing and standardizing deployment methodologies for the product and it’s application platform. Also responsible for installations and upgrades of customer deployments, as well as tier 3+ customer support. • Responsible for the internal and external networking infrastructure, including Cisco routers, Cisco PIX firewalls, Dell switches, and VPN connections. Familiar with most load balancing technologies (F5 and other hardware switches, haproxy/CARP, apache, etc). • Responsible for several monitoring tools, including Nagios and Zabbix. Also familiar with ZenOS. From September 2008 to May 2012 (3 years 9 months) Systems Engineer @ • Designed majority of the infrastructure for the combined company. Implemented most of the system software for electronic mail, including significantly customized versions of Courier IMAP, Postfix, webmail, and proprietary services. Implemented the system software for web services, including integrating and debugging of the Apache server software and various modules. Setup and administered internal and customer servicing MySQL and Postgres database systems. Redeveloped entire LDAP infrastructure (OpenLDAP). Responsible for day to day operations of the Solaris systems, backup infrastructure, Network Appliance Filers. Integrated both SPARC Solaris 9, 10, and x86 Solaris 10 systems. Responsible for system security, patch maintenance, and third-party software package updates, including MySQL, Postgres, Perl, PHP, Python, and much more. From January 2003 to August 2008 (5 years 8 months) Systems Engineer @ • Performed a wide variety of tasks on-site at Hewlett-Packard. Duties included the continued development of internal tools, maintaining web interfaces, product recommendation and deployment, systems integration. Was responsible for a wide variety of test equipment. Worked primarily with the Inkjet printer firmware development group. Primary supported platforms were various versions of HP-UX and Windows. From June 2002 to January 2003 (8 months) Systems Engineer @ • Responsible for the implementation and deployment of entire UNIX (BSD/OS, OpenBSD) systems infrastructure (30+ servers, 50,000 customers), including mail, USENET news, dial up authentication, and web hosting platforms. Developed customized OpenBSD operating system to fit environment. Developed system back ends and CGI front ends for custom accounting system. Integrated other acquired or merged company infrastructure and customers. Directed up to three employees. • This was essentially a technological leadership position within Pacifier Online; the company was sold to MDM iNet and later became Infinity Internet. From January 2001 to February 2002 (1 year 2 months) Systems Engineer @ See MDM iNet section, above. From April 1996 to January 2001 (4 years 10 months) Technical Lead @ • Performed systems administration for the entire company (across many different vendor flavors of UNIX), managed tasks for up to two other administrators, planned technical expansion of the company. Also performed consulting at customer sites, including a large amount of time at Rockwell Semiconductor and Willamette Industries, as well as software development.
